Comments on: Brian May – The Asteroidal Axeman https://hipquotient.com/brian-may-the-astroidal-axeman-2/ From Glam Rock, to Garbo, to Goats Sun, 04 Oct 2015 04:35:02 +0000 hourly 1 https://wordpress.org/?v=5.4.15 By: Jane M. https://hipquotient.com/brian-may-the-astroidal-axeman-2/#comment-18238 Thu, 21 Aug 2014 05:43:11 +0000 http://hipquotient.com/?p=8949#comment-18238 Aw, I can top that. Skunk Baxter (Doobie Brothers, Steely Dan) is a Missile Defense System Axeman. Learning from a neighbor who was an engineer retired from the Pentagon’s Sidewinder Missile program, Baxter developed an interest in adapting recording industry technology for military use, particularly missile defense systems. His work led to consulting contracts with the Department of Defense, including the Missile Defense and National Geospatial-Intelligence Agencies (whatever that is). He enjoys very high national security clearances and is widely admired by some members of the military and the government for his unconventional ways of looking at non-military technology and imagining what he thinks of as “anti-terrorism” uses for it. Personally, I think some Congressmen just use his “special skills” as an excuse to hang out with Skunk Baxter, but I could be wrong. He currently spends more time working for the government than he does recording music these days.

Noble Sir Brian has always been one of my favourites – a true knight of music and science. There is something aristocratic about his personality – this unique blend of talent, charm, modesty, mystery and hell knows what else. A guitarist with a telescope (or an astrophysicist with a guitar, as you like) must be a crown of creation!

Enjoy his chat with Rick Wakeman – two charming gentlemen of Rock:
